Ebola blamed for rise in unemployment in Liberia

By Moses Owen Browne Moses Owen Browne

Unemployment is causing increasing panic among Liberians as they struggle with the after effects of the Ebola virus. In northern Nimba County, people complain of the lack of jobs and employment opportunities to sustain themselves.

It is reported that only 20% of the county’s total population was employed - and the Ebola outbreak has made the situation even worse.

“I was laid off in September during the height of the Ebola crisis,” says Tenneh Lassana, a nurse from Nimba. I have only my little salary for the period I’ve worked.” Lassana worked for the Evening Star, a local clinic in Ganta before her dismissal.

“I have been home doing nothing for at least five months now without a job, with no money to sustain my family,” she said.

Lassana believes the organisations she worked for closed down due to Ebola, and left the country.

John Konah Digler from Ganta said many people are out of work in the county, and some have left for Monrovia to find work.

Digler’s mother, who provided for the family of 16, was laid off from an international NGO in August - and since then they have been starving.

Larry Togba, a former spokesman for the Cocopa Rubber Plantation Worker’s Union, says he has been out of work for eight months.

“I was amongst 25 employees that were laid off when Ebola started and today many of us are without jobs. However, some of my colleagues are now riding motor bikes to survive.

“We are catching hell. I do not have the first dime to even pay my children school fees and the government says schools will open in March.”

Togba now lives in Boe Community, Ganta with his five children’ two boys and three girls.

“I have to send my children in the streets to sell cold water and boil eggs because it’s not easy to feed them. Things are very tough,” he said.

“Everything is expensive - even a cup of rice is L$30.00, and I don’t have money at all.”

With schools re-opening on Monday, many children and students will not return to the classrooms during this academic school year, due the economic constraints of their parents.

“I am not able to pay my fees, it will take me at least seven months of sales to get back on course,” said Anna Nance, a student at the University of Liberia.

Nance sells cosmetics such as beauty soap, make up, cream and body lotion at the busy water market in Monrovia.

Most of the schools operating in the country are private, and fees charged per semester are very high in the midst of economic constraint.

With no other option, most of these children now see themselves at street corners finding odd jobs to earn money and return to the classroom.

Koala Oumarou, Country Director of Plan Liberia, said: “It must be a priority to get children back into school. If these children are to contribute to the development of Liberia, it must start now with their education and learning.”

Digital video is definitely incorporated into online marketing strategies

By Clemente Ferrer Clemente Ferrer

IAB Spain has presented the results of the first study on the use of video in digital marketing in Spain. The research, conducted in cooperation with AdMan Media, a leader in online video distribution, and with the consultancy TNS, is based on a digital survey of one hundred directors of marketing and communication companies in all sectors.

Javi Clarke, director of “mobile and new media” at IAB Spain, made a brief introduction to the context of video in Spain, where “YouTube” stands out as the preferred platform for users to view the contents of digital video.

Moreover, Clarke said the study shows how digital video is replacing traditional television, since foreign films and series appear in the first place of the content most viewed by consumers of digital video.

The great advantage of video is interactivity, enabling dialogue with consumers. In this aspect, although social networks are still leaders as a platform to generate user interactivity with 68%, they have fallen by 4% and by contrast the level of interactivity increases in the companies’ own pages.

For forms of vision video content, Clarke has recognized that the model of pay per view is still “very little rooted in Spain,” but compared to this, there is a 77% of users who accept advertising in exchange for access to free content and that 44% does not reject “cookies”. As a final conclusion, Clarke emphasized that internet “is increasingly audiovisual”, creating new opportunities to reach the user and “democratizing the content market, as well as advertising in prime time”.

The study shows that nearly 9 out of 10 marketing professionals surveyed (87.5%) used the video in their campaigns during 2013. Of this group, 9 out of 10 professionals (90.5%) believes that the online video has a positive impact on their campaigns, compared to 9.5% who think otherwise.

Author and journalist Clemente Ferrer has led a distinguished career in Spain in the fields of advertising and public relations. He is currently President of the European Institute of Marketing.

LACC’s blunder adds to nation’s woes

By Tewroh-Wehtoe Sungbeh James N. Verdier, Jr

I know from common sense that when a person is accused of a crime and is finally charged with that crime, prosecutors are expected to quickly put their case together to put the individual on trial for such alleged act.

After that is done, care is taken so that an overzealous, or perhaps an incompetent prosecutor will not overplay his or her card to make a mess that will result in a mistrial or acquittal.

When a former political activist who is widely known for his inflated rhetoric and in- your-face style of getting his points across is indicted for corruption and left alone to campaign for a senate seat as if he did nothing wrong, not doing anything says a lot about the administration on whose watch the alleged violation took place.

J. Milton Teahjay, the former Superintendent of Sinoe County who won a Senate seat to represent that County during the December 20, 2014 mid-term senatorial elections, was charged by the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) with the “Misapplication of Entrusted Property” and “violating the Public Procurement Act of 2005.”

Since Teahjay – now Senator Teahjay was indicted by the LACC for corruption before the mid-term elections, the names of other high-profile officials including Speaker Alex Tyler has been mentioned; to show that the LACC is serious about curbing corruption in government.

It is unknown whether the LACC is serious about actually pursuing corruption in the court of law, or is only interested in pursuing ‘verdicts’ in the court of public opinion; even as the careers and the little that’s left in the individual’s reputations are being dragged in the mud on a daily basis, without an actual court trial.

Senator Teahjay is fighting charges of “theft and/or illegal disbursement and Expenditure of Public Money for unauthorizingly using, disbursing and expending without evidence and or documentation” of money entrusted in his care for his various districts as the LACC sees it.

As expected, Speaker Tyler is also fighting back. More so, Deputy Speaker Hans M. Barchue is fighting back as well.

Hans M. Barchue, who has since denied those charges that he received $1.2m for consultation from the National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL), reportedly said the budget for consultation was $900,000, which “was used accordingly.”

Why did it take the LACC so long after the indictment before talking about bringing J. Milton Teahjay and others to trial? Why did this body allowed Mr. Teahjay to even campaign for the senatorial seat, then had to wait until after his decisive victory before talking about dragging him to court to prosecute him?

Do you think the politically skillful, verbose and theatrical Teahjay who is good at manipulating public opinions will sit back supinely and not fight back and cry political witch hunt and political disenfranshisement, in the wake of his decisive victory?

I believe strongly in the eradication of corruption, the prosecution of corrupt government officials and the confiscation of their stolen wealth.

But when incompetence and indecisiveness plays out so openly as we have seen with the LACC that it threatens this case and peace in general, than the LACC is a problem.

Whether the indecisiveness on the part of the LACC stems from some obtrusive orders coming from the Executive Mansion can be debated; because it smells like political interference from the highest political office of the land.

Remember, Senator J. Milton Teahjay is now a member of the ruling Unity Party.

However since Mr. Barchue did not elaborate any further as to how he used the money “accordingly,” I am not ready to assume anything, except to say that we (Liberians) are in a mess.

We are in a grand mess that just doesn’t seem to go away, even as we called ourselves dabbling into democracy and the idea of electing Representatives and Senators whom we wholeheartedly believe are working for us.

It is the opposite, of course, when endless stories of incompetence and naked heartlessness are reported about House and Senate members who seem to be living on another planet in terms of the way they understand poverty and legislation, and what needs to be done to represent those they were elected to represent.

I have written over and over that corruption in the Liberian government will never be contained or go away completely under Sirleaf, when the executive branch of government is unserious about pursuing corruption, as we know it.

That is because Ellen Johnson Sirleaf is good at playing games with the Liberian people every time she publicly claims to be ‘fighting’ corruption.

However, when a president looks the other way instead of the right way to deal with an issue such as corruption, even when the president’s grown children, friends, cronies and other family members reportedly are at the top of the list of those the LACC should be investigating for corruption, makes a mockery of any campaign to eradicate corruption.

Of course, corruption is a serious problem in Liberia that shouldn’t be ignored. As corruption and unemployment gets our attention daily, rape and physical abuse are on a rise.

The Liberian House and Senate members are tone deaf to the plight of their people and country; and appear to be benchwarmers whose only concerns are representing their respective pocketbooks, in a country where 85 percent of the population is unemployed.

As the LACC and the legislature go back and forth pointing fingers at the legality of prosecuting the alleged legislative criminals in this ongoing saga, young girls as 12 years old are constantly being raped and physically abused by men as old as 40 years old.

As our young daughters and mothers are being raped by these rogue men, one would think the Liberian Legislature will rush to put some bills with teeth on the table intended to throw the individuals in jail for life, so that such criminal behavior will never be carried out on more females in this age of AIDS and other diseases.

It seems everybody is on his or her own in Ellen Johnson Sirleaf’s dysfunctional and leaderless Liberia. We are in for a long ride, folks.

Chairman Reeves' response to Pres. Mulbah (charges) regarding community center

OFFICE OF THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

THE LIBERIAN ASSOCIATION OF METROPOLITAN ATLANTA
4757 STONE MOUNTAIN HIGHWAY
LILBURN GEORGIA 30047
Joseph R. Reeves
January 29, 2015
Dear Officers & Members of the Liberian Community in Georgia:
I am writing this letter in response to the misinformation and smear campaign orchestrated against me by Mr. Leo Mulbah, President of LAMA. It is with some degree of hesitation that I am using this public forum because I do not find it prudent to ‘wash our dirty clothes’ in the public. However, since Mr. Mulbah has chosen to go public without first exhausting administrative remedies; I am left with no choice but to tell my side of the story. I am very concern about the division and distraction this exercise will cause the Liberian community in Georgia; which has been making some unprecedented progress (as the result of the collective effort of the community) in the past few months. Please review the following and make your decision based upon the facts:
  1. What prompted my visit to REMAX was the outcome of the January 12, 2015 Joint Leadership Meeting. A decision was reached to cancel the contract with REMAX. The Joint Leadership Meeting acting upon the directives of the General Assembly given on January 11, 2015; to resolve all contractual issues affecting LAMA; mandated the President to cancel the agreement with REMAX. Mr. Mulbah assured the Joint leadership meeting that the contract will be cancelled the next day. More than a week after, Mr. Mulbah had not cancel the agreement. When I spoke to Mr. Mulbah on the 20th of January, he said he had not received any response from REMAX. When I did not hear from Mr. Mulbah, I became concern about the veracity of his statement. This led me to review the REMAX contract. It was during the revision that I discovered that the agent name and number on the contract did not match Ms. Boima’s name and number; that the agent’s license had expired since 2013;( See EXHIBIT “1”) and that the broker’s name and number was not on the contract. So I as Chairman of the Board was under obligation to conduct my independent fact finding and report the outcome to the Board or the Joint leadership meeting. Therefore, I made an appointment to meet Mrs. Slovakia Mike on January 22, 2015; and she agreed to meet with me on the next day, January 23, 2015 at 3:00 P.M.
  2. Another reason that prompted my visit to REMAX was when I discovered that since the contract was signed in October 2014, LAMA has not been listed on any of the MLS nor FMLS sites; which is in violation of the contract. It became of concern to me because it has contributed to the poor revenue generation the Community Center is experiencing. I was also prompted to visit REMAX because I had identified some discrepancies in the contract with REMAX.
  3. Based upon the above, I consulted with Mr. Cascius Acolatse, a Realtor and former Vice President of LAMA; and urged him to join me in my meeting with Mrs. Slovakia Mike of REMAX. The meeting was a fact finding meeting to clarify my concerns about the contract and to ensure that LAMA’s interest was fully protected.
  4. However, to my surprise, Mrs. Slovakia Mike, the broker with whom I held the meeting, turned out to be an informant and confidante of Ms. Miatta Boima; by virtue of the email which is circulating within the community; bearing her name and email address.
  5. Upon receipt of the said email, and the mass email from Mr. Mulbah, I called and sent a text message to Mr. Mulbah to establish whether or not he is the author of the email smearing my character. He has yet to respond. Meanwhile, several officials and members of LAMA have authenticated the fact that the email was from Mr. Mulbah; as he has spoken to them about the matter.
  6. Thereafter, I prepared a notarized letter to Mrs. Mike, the REMAX broker, disputing the allegation in the email allegedly written by her; and expressing displeasure over the fact that she chose to misrepresent the facts and to behave in an unprofessional manner by spreading falsehood to Ms. Boima about the meeting that was held with her. See EXHIBIT “2”.
  7. That, reviewing the Lease Agreement LAMA entered into with Q & C Investment; in which Kelly Williams is listed as the broker and Ms Miatta Boima is listed as the Broker’s agent, one will note the information about the broker and the agent are indisputable. However, the management contract with REMAX presented a lot of puzzles which I sought to unravel by my visit to REMAX. (See copies of the signature page of both contracts marked as EXHIBIT “3” and EXHIBIT “4” attached. )
  8. There are serious problems affecting the operation and management of the Community Center; if unattended will result in the loss of all of LAMA’s investment. For instance, the monthly expenses of the property are about $6,200.00 including utilities. The Center’s income for four months since the lease was procured - October 1, 2014 to January 28, 2015 has only amounted to the sum of $4,590.00; leaving a deficit of $15,410.00. According to the terms of the contact signed, the Property manager is obligated to raise at least $5,000.00 monthly. If the trend continues, LAMA will be unable to maintain the property; and will eventually lose the building. (See EXHIBIT“5” an excerpt of the contract attached.)
  9. The lack of transparency and sound business practice exhibited by the President will land the Association in trouble with public officials and the State of Georgia if corrective measures are not taken immediately. Despite several meetings and assurances, the current President of LAMA continues to run the Association without regard for constituted authorities. Worst still, his gross disrespect towards some officials of the Association is mind boggling.
    Here are some indisputable facts:
  1. On October 1, 2014, Mr. Leo Mulbah entered into a contractual agreement with Ms Miatta Boima (as Agent of REMAX) without the knowledge and consent of the Board in violation of Rule 3.6 of LAMA Code of Ethics. It will interest you to note that they were the only two signatories to the said agreement.
  2. On October 12, 2014, Mr. Mulbah misled the General Assembly stating that he had not signed any contract with REMAX.
  3. On October 24, 2014, Mr. Mulbah misled the Board of Directors during a meeting, that he had not signed the contract with REMAX.
  4. On November 8, 2014, during a joint Board of Directors and Advisory Board meeting, he again misled the joint meeting stating that he had not signed the contract with REMAX. Relying upon his misleading statement, the Joint meeting offered some recommendations to be included in the contract. (See copy of the Minutes of the Joint Leadership meeting on November 8, 2014, marked as EXHIBIT ”6”).
  5. On November 14, 2014, the Board of Directors communicated with Mr. Mulbah expressing its displeasure with the fact that he had signed the contract on October 1, 2014; and was misrepresenting to the Board that he had not signed the contract. (See copy of the Board’s letter marked as EXHIBIT “7” attached to this document).
  6. On December 18, 2014, Mr. Mulbah, in an email, informed the Chairman of the Advisory Board that he had instructed LAMA’s Treasurer to include the Agent of REMAX as signatory to the escrow account and to issue a debit card for the use of the said REMAX’s Agent. It is interesting to note that the REMAX agent is also the paramour of the President and the manager of the Community Center. This action which was in contravention of Article 13, Section 2 of LAMA’s Constitution – “No new account and bank card should be allowed without the approval of the General Assembly.”See EXHIBIT “8”
  7. The President’s relationship with Ms Miatta Boima has clouded his judgment; is a“Conflict of Interest”; and a gross breach of ethical standards established in most work places across the United States. According to LAMA’s Constitution Article XII, Section 2, subtitled: “General Comportment”: “Every member is expected to develop a high sense of duty, commitment and discipline regarding matters related to LAMA. Members should treat one another with respect at all times, and avoid making comments of a provocative nature. No member shall engage in any illegal or immoral act(s) punishable by law. Under Rule 4.4 ( b ) of the Code of Conduct, subtitled: “Ethical Relations Among Officers and Members”: .”A member or officers shall refrain from derogatory and inflammatory acts during meetings of the General Assembly and any community event. Every step should be taken to preserve the dignity and respect of LAMA”.
  1. There is a need for a comprehensive investigation and review of all documents associated with the Center to ensure that LAMA is in compliance with existing rules, regulations and laws. The lease agreement and all other documents associated with the Community Center need to be thoroughly scrutinized to avoid violations of existing State regulations and laws.Preliminary investigation reveals that some documents were procured under questionable circumstances. If we as leaders do not act swiftly, we will regret for not doing so.
  2. We cannot sit supinely and allow the Association to return to the dark days of no progress.LAMA is a “community property” and not a personal property of the current President; as such, accountability and transparency must be the rule and not the exception.
  3. The current President masquerades as though he is solely responsible for the current progress LAMA has made; and is quick to brand others who disagree with him as “enemies of progress”.Therefore, we as leaders must not be complacent; neither should we acquiesce by our refusal to take timely action when things are not been done in the right way.I don’t have to recount the enormous contribution and sacrifices I have made towards the establishment of the Community Center. The record speaks for itself; and if the President is sincere, he will attest to this fact.
  4. It is not my desire to “witch-hunt”,“assassinate character” or “falsely accuse” anyone in LAMA. However, the interest of LAMA must be placed above individual self interest. We cannot afford to turn back the clock. Mr. Leo Mulbah cannot run the Association without accountability.
In view of the foregoing, I challenge Mr. Mulbah to controvert the evidence listed above. I also which to inform the Liberian Community, that I have not exhausted all the evidence against Mr. Mulbah. However, in the spirit of Peace and Unity, the Board of Directors will be convening a meeting to discuss this matter.
May God Bless and Keep our Beloved Community and Liberia
    Respectfully Submitted:

Dear Miatta,I wanted to follow up with you regarding what transpired when Mr. Reeves, and Mr. Cassius stopped by office last week.First, both gentleman presented under false pretenses that they had a couple of buyers they needed help with. Shortly into the conversation they began to ask me about you. I could tell they were looking for “something” to use against you. My assessment was that they were blaming you for the financial losses the Community Center is experiencing and trying to insinuate some type of fraud had transpired, or that you had specifically misled them in some way regarding the facility. I advised them , that I was aware of the management agreement, but I was not aware of any monetary proceeds being received by RE/MAX.

They were asking about some type of fraud, but I could find no evidence to support anything out of the ordinary as having transpired. The leasing contract appears to be in order with the proper signatures for all parties. The listing agreement for the management of the facility located at 4757 Stone Mountain Hwy, Snellville, GA 30039, is a legally binding and enforceable contract. The community Center is currently in default of the agreement, due to non payment of commissions and marketing/advertising costs.

Please let me know if you need any additional information.

Teachers worry that school year is already ruined in Liberia

By: Moses Owen Browne, Jr. Moses Owen Browne

Ganta, Liberia: Liberian teachers say teenage pregnancy and youth delinquency may stop pupils from returning to school on February 2nd, when Liberia’s classrooms are set to re-open.

They also worry that schools are failing, and staffs will not be paid due to the economic constraints caused by the Ebola crisis.

Alex Wou, acting principal of St. Lawrence Catholic School in Nimba County,
said: “Even though we are excited that classes are resuming in two weeks,
we are equally worried that half of the total enrollment won’t make it this
academic year.”

“Many of our students, especially girls, are pregnant, and their males
counterparts are riding *pem pem* [motor cycles], fathering children or
abusing drugs.”

The re-opening of schools has been hailed as a hopeful sign that the Ebola
outbreak is coming under control in Liberia – a country that at the height
of the crisis was reporting 300 Ebola new cases per day.

President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf ordered all schools closed in July 2014 in
an attempt to contain the deadly epidemic.

According to local newspapers, there are now only 5 cases in all Ebola
Treatment Units across Liberia.

“We at St. Lawrence endorsed the decision, because no matter what, our
children must go back to school. However, the challenges remain the same as they were 10 years backsaid,” Wou said.

So far, St. Lawrence Catholic School has only registered 563 students, out
of a total of 1358 registered. Wou said he expects no more than half of the students to make it back to school this year.

According to Wou, “financial constraint is one major impediment.’
“We have heard from parents and even the students who complained of lack of
money to send their children to school,” he added.

In Bomi County, students worry that schools are now too run down to provide
a safe space for returning pupils.

Three students at schools in Bomi said that schools should resume – but
that classrooms and buildings needed proper renovation and furnishings
before classes could commence.

Mr. Wou also pointed out that it would be impossible to pay all the
teaching staff for 12 months, due to lack of finances. “We won’t be able to pay our teachers for 12 months; we won’t be able to buy stationary, desks and even additional chairs for the students.

“We will have to conduct workshops for our teachers and expand the
classrooms to implement government’s regulations, but where will we get
this money from?”

St. Lawrence Catholic School was established in 2000, but Wou said it is in
need of repairs and serious renovation.

At St. Lawrence Catholic School, the average fee charged per student is
$12,690 Liberia dollars for senior high division, $8,885 for junior high
and $6,755 for elementary divisions respectively.

Plan Liberia plans to conduct a Back To School programme in Nimba County,
focusing on supporting students with school fees, school materials and some
financial support to keep the children in school.

The charity is also supporting schools with WASH activities, which encourages
handwashing and sanitation.

Plan Liberia Country Director Koala Oumarou said: “Plan and our education
partners are working tirelessly with the national government to ensure that
schools are safe once re-opened to protect every child.”

Normal life resumes in Liberia

By Moses Owen Browne, Jr. Moses Owen Browne
Normal activities are resuming across Liberia with only 5 Ebola cases left across the country.

In Ganta, Nimba County residents are seen at market places and about their normal activities.

Ganta, Gompa City, is a town in Nimba County of northern Liberia, the
second largest city in Liberia with a population of 41,106, as of 2008
Liberia Housing and Population Census Report.

“But in the midst of these difficulties, thank God we still have hope –
because a total of 5 cases remaining at all ETUs across Liberia is a
welcoming development,” Theresa Boakai a petty trader says.

Theresa sells at the Ganta general market, and believes with all the
measures being followed effectively, Liberians are ready to celebrate
victory over Ebola.

“I am happy for Plan Liberia and other international development partners
who stood the test of time to help Liberia” Emmanuel Kennedy, a local
journalist remarked.

According to Emmanuel, though thousands of people have died from the deadly
Ebola, we still believe to some extent our doctors, our international
partners particularly Plan, have been working beyond the clock to save lives
and the intervention strategies have paid off.

“Everywhere you go now in Nimba County there is hand washing facilities
visible both at homes and public places – which reinforces the message of
preventing Ebola” the journalists noted.

“If only 5 persons are at the ETUs around Liberia, then I am hopeful
that we are getting there by God’s grace. There is hope – and we are indeed
winning the war against Ebola no matter what” Joseph Nyunkor Plan Liberia
Nimba County Field Office Manager.

Joseph noted that Plan Liberia has been playing a major role on the Social
Mobilization and Health Promotion fronts for the Ebola response. “Since the
beginning of the first and second outbreaks, we have been working with the
social mobilization committees creating massive awareness and educating our
people on the prevention of Ebola in particularly, Bomi, Lofa, Nimba and
Monrovia where our Project Units are located”.

He said Plan has even donated vehicles to the Ministry of Health and Social
Welfare for use by three counties: Bomi, Lofa and Montserrado where she
operates; picking dead bodies and Ebola cases.

Our strategies have worked well and we are grateful that Ebola is finally
leaving Liberia.

However, Mr. Nyunkor pointed out that it is time for Liberians to reflect
on the past and continue the best hygiene practices in order to stay
safe.

“We are hoping our people will continue to improve their hygiene practices
so that we can succeed fully and return to our normal life. Washing hands
regularly should be part of our culture” he said.

Joseph says the trauma created on the minds will take a longer period to be
healed because some families were directly affected and communities were
shattered however, Liberians are excited that they are going back to normal
life.

Combating Nigeria's Growing Insecurity

By David Leffler ph_david_leffler_phd

A roundtable held last week at the Institute of African Studies reports that the Nigerian government’s “…campaigns have not addressed their plans for combating the growing insecurity that has left Nigerians living in fear and paralyzed educational and economic activities in large swaths of Northeastern Nigeria.” A string of terrorist attacks have occurred as Nigeria has struggled to build a functional and coherent response. Fortunately, there is a science-based approach to create societal coherence that can protect Nigeria from both internal and external threats. It is called Invincible Defense Technology (IDT) because it assures invincibility, peace, and even economic progress, to the nation and the military that employ it.

Invincible Defense Technology (IDT), a Proven, State-of-the-Art, Non-violent Military Solution

The IDT approach to defense has its basis in a radically new preventive model that has been thoroughly field-tested in numerous world battlegrounds. This approach results in rapid reduction of individual, societal and national collective stress. Its methods have been proven and adopted as part of the training of America’s future commanders at Norwich University, a nationally respected and oldest military academy in the USA (see also the YouTube video “Meditation Improves Performance at Military University” and the Official Homepage of the US Army). IDT is further validated by 23 peer-reviewed studies carried out in both developed and developing nations. Its coherence-creating effect has also been documented on a global scale in a study published in the Journal of Offender Rehabilitation. When large assemblies of civilian IDT experts gathered during the years 1983 - 1985, international conflict decreased 32%, terrorism-related casualties decreased 72%, and overall violence was reduced in nations without intrusion by other governments.

IDT is totally unlike any other defense technology because it does not use violence in an attempt to quell violence. It is a more civilized approach, one especially worthy of nations that abhor violence as a means to power. IDT uniquely goes to the root cause of violence - the built-up stress in the individual and collective consciousness. Scientists have evidence that high levels of collective societal stress are the underlying cause of war, violence, crime and terrorism. When the IDT methodology is applied, stress levels throughout the population are rapidly reduced.

In an environment of lowered stress even staunch adversaries find ways to cooperate and overcome long-standing differences.

IDT Reduces Societal Stress

IDT uniquely neutralizes the underlying power base of contending groups, which is the stress, frustration and civil dissatisfaction prevailing in the general population. By eliminating the root cause of insurgency, violent outbreaks are pre-empted and prevented. IDT is effective because it gets to the heart of the matter. Terrorism often thrives in nations in which decades or even centuries of under-employment, poverty, and hunger have created a huge societal weight of stress, frustration and endemic unhappiness. This inevitably finds expression in acts of terrorism, civil unrest, social violence, and a downward spiral of economic degradation.
A specially trained military unit, an “IDT Prevention Wing of the Military,” uses IDT to reduce stress in the national collective consciousness. IDT could also be introduced into other large groups such as the police forces, or militias. As the stress and frustration ease, the population is more capable of finding orderly and constructive solutions to their problems.

Experience with IDT in other war-torn nations demonstrated increases in economic incentive and growth. Entrepreneurship and individual creativity also increased. With increased civic calm, people’s aspirations are raised and a more productive and balanced society emerges. Such a society abhors violence as a means for change or as an expression of discontent. With this, the ground for terrorism is eliminated. What is more fascinating, this change takes place within a few days or weeks after IDT is introduced. The changes are measurable from such statistics as crime rates, accidents, hospital admissions, infant mortality, etc.

Rapid Transformation Through IDT

The daily routine for the IDT military personnel includes the nonreligious practice of the Transcendental Meditation® program along with its advanced form, the TM-Sidhi program. As a societal coherence-creating military unit, they practice these programs twice a day, seven days a week, preferably in a secure location near the targeted population.

Such coherence-creating groups have achieved positive benefits in society, shown statistically, in a short time. Modern statistical methods used in this research show a low probability of any explanation other than a causal influence of the technology. The IDT approach has been used during wartime resulting in the reduction of fighting, a decreased number of deaths and casualties, and an improvement in progress toward resolving the conflict peacefully. The war in Lebanon in 1983 was dramatically impacted in a peaceful way by an IDT Intervention Group. A thoroughly documented study of this phenomenon was published in the Journal of Conflict Resolution, and summaries of follow-up studies were published in the Journal of Social Behavior and Personality and the Journal of Scientific Exploration.

Summary

IDT works by utilizing our natural human brain mechanics, the most powerful natural resource possessed by every nation on earth. The beneficial transformational effects of IDT have been statistically proven numerous times to decrease and prevent violence and terrorism, and boost the economy.

IDT defense technology supersedes all other known defense technologies (which are based on electronic, chemical, and/or nuclear forces). These old, fear-based modalities are ultimately self-destructive for any nation, and for the human race as a whole, and must be replaced with IDT. So far, IDT is the only known, proven constructive approach.

The military that deploys this powerful, human-resource-based technology disallows negative trends and prevents enemies from arising, and as a result, it has no enemies. No enemies means no war, terrorism and no insurgency.

The Time for Action is Now

IDT is the twenty-first century’s leading-edge defense system. If Nigeria establishes IDT Prevention Wings of the Military, they will ease high tensions, reverse mistrust, crush hatred, create stability and permanently prevent war and terrorism. Extensive scientific research objectively says, “Yes, the system works.” Why not use it in Nigeria? Time is running out. The best time to act is now, before Nigeria’s perilous situation worsens.
